Nonna Pia’s – From Whistler to the Biggest Success in Dragons’ Den History

Whistler, April 26, 2017 – How do you go from being a physiotherapist in Whistler to the biggest success in Dragons’ Den history? This April, Natasha Strim, co-founder of Nonna Pias Gourmet Sauces, will share her fast-growth success story with the Women of Whistler. This event is being held at Nicklaus North Golf Course & Table Nineteen Lakeside Eatery, from 6-8pm on Wednesday, April 26. Tickets start at $40 and can be bought online: womenofwhistler.com

“We are very excited to have Natasha share with us how she navigated the entrepreneurial rollercoaster,” says Lynn Gadsby, Women of Whistler Chair. “Her story is one of challenges, grit, and determination. There will be so many actionable take-aways for budding entrepreneurs, businesses owners, and leaders.”

In late 2016, Norm and Natasha Strim, co-founders of Nonna Pias Gourmet Sauces, earned the largest reinvestment in Dragons’ Den history — $250,000 from Dragon Investor David Chilton. Hear first-hand how they became a household pantry staple, and boosted their store-count from 358 to over 1600 before their Dragons Den episode even aired.

Back in 2010 Natasha left her career in physiotherapy to follow her passion - working full time at Nonna Pia’s. She primarily focused on growing sales while her husband, Norm, worked on maintaining a premium-quality product. In 2014, with some fantastic mentoring from their new partner, David Chilton who they met after appearing on the hit TV show “Dragons’ Den,” Natasha got Nonna Pia’s Balsamic Reductions onto the shelves of every major retailer in Canada. In 2015 she expanded distribution into Food Services and launched their products into the U.S.A. Since then Natasha has picked up listings for Nonna Pia’s in various major stores including Whole Foods, Albertsons/Safeway and Kroger.

Key Takeaways:

  •  Lessons from their Dragon on maintaining focus, building confidence and critiquing decisions
    •    Managing cash flow during steep growth
    •    Taking a leap of faith and being prepared to “do it yourself”
